SEND in English
In English, SEND students are supported with key words and definitions at every stage of their learning. At the start of each unit, students are given a core knowledge map which is stuck into their books and they can refer to this as they progress through the unit. Teachers will print out information for SEND students to avoid any lengthy copying from the board. Our workbooks are scaffolded with sentence stems and support sheets and we have visual organisers built into lessons. Teachers will use the seating plan to strategically seat students near a supportive partner or at the end of the row to readily be able to offer support throughout lessons. Information is chunked in English and we use First, Next and Then to avoid cognitive overload.
